December 1, 2022Christmas Blessings and Thanks for all who have blessed us!
By the time you stop to blink your eyes, Christmas will be here! You need an early start, so get moving! Cards at my house usually get started in October. Then gift shopping commences. There are parties and plans, cooking, crafts, decorating, and always last-minute things to do.
As we make time for family and friends, please remember there are families with special needs in your community. We are blessed for helping others too.
It’s a blessing just to be counted among the present. There are thoughts of lost loved ones and empty chairs at the dinner tables with memories of days past, and present. We all have some hope that those spaces will be filled. That could be “what Christmas will bring”. You can always count on change, and not the kind you spend at the store, the kind you have to deal with, learn, and grow from.
Space travel is expanding too. There are passenger tickets for sale for trips to the universe. “Peace on earth, good will to men” could expand to the realms of the stars, planets, and what lies beyond. It gets complicated.
Over the river and through the woods as we carry through the wide and drifting snow, as gas prices go higher than we know. But it’s nice to drift off to the comforts of a simpler life of freedom and friends at the Sportsmen’s Club.
If you attend the membership meetings the last Wednesday of each month, at about 5:30 you will see our group donating and selling pies, cakes and maybe even raffling off an item of value for the price of a ticket. Much of our proceeds go back into projects for the main club. We also decorate the clubhouse for Christmas every year, and we donate stamps, goods, and time to the Miracle Boxes for our troops. We set up the kitchen for swap meets, gun safety classes, and summer junior adventures. Some of the gardens on the grounds are maintained using many “Women’s Auxiliary” hours and donated plants. We also make pies and cakes for funerals that are held at the club.
All ladies of all ages are invited to come and join the fun as we meet every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Ginger Cookie Recipe from a 1890’s cookbook
One egg, one cup sugar, on cup molasses, one tablespoon soda, one tablespoon of vinegar, on tablespoon of ginger, two or more cups of flour, enough to stiffen. Mix and roll thin. Cut small cookies and bake in a hot oven.
