From the President – June
June 1, 2023Oakland County Sportman – June 2023
June 1, 2023Sometimes we get so used to things going well that we forget the people who selflessly make them possible.
We graduated another class of racers and flaggers in April. Alex and our remarkable instructors did their usual excellent job. Ron Cech’s relentless pursuit of new volunteers put more people in the corners than I have ever seen. Thanks, as well, to all the volunteers that made the weekend possible. Many of our flaggers also got to participate in the advanced fire training at the Wane County Fire facility in Taylor.
Our first race weekend was also a rousing success! We had 95 entrants. Saturday was without incident and though the wet track Sunday morning caused some mishaps, the sun came out for the end of the day. We deserve a pat on our own back for being so well behaved.
Since Kelly is doing such an amazing job getting the magazine out early, we can talk about the upcoming joint race with the SCCA. We can expect a very large field, which means paddock space is going to be scarce. If you have the chance and the room in your spot, offer to share some of it with a visiting racer. I’ve shared my space twice and ended up with 2 new friends.
OTDs and rentals are in full swing. Clutch and Dave are doing an excellent job keeping the schedule full.
I will close with my usual reminder to enjoy being a participating member of our Sportsman’s Club!
See you at the track.
