I had to make a deal with, well, a Dragon and a Unicorn.
This deal will have an impact on our Fall Rendezvous.
As many of you know, our Muzzleloader club is a sub-club of the Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club. Without the main club, the Clan of the Wolf is just a group of handsome, sharply dressed individuals with smoke poles.
Our Club has been making some income, but it is not keeping up with our current and future bills. A big one coming up is the improvement of our parking lot. The club has been working to find creative ways to address club income and one of the plans is starting to come together.
Many clubs in the area have had success with light shows and other attractions much like our Haunted Forest, a
Terror on Townsend Forest. I was all in for that and was sorry to see it go. Many of the fund-raising events we had
depended on over the years have gone by the wayside, including my beloved Hunter’s Banquet. The lack of sufficient volunteers to organize and run these events is the core issue.
The Club is very close to closing an agreement with a company that puts on light shows, concerts, dinosaur exhibits and many other successful fund-raising ventures. Our plan is to turn the Campground woods into a Mythical Forest Attraction each weekend from September 27th to November 3rd.
I was able to delay the event until after the Fall Rendezvous, they had hoped to start on September 20th. This delay doesn’t completely leave us unaffected, however. Many of the attraction displays will start to be delivered as soon as August 14th. So, we will be sharing the woods with not only deer and turkeys, but unicorns, dragons and Gnomes. Some of the camping areas will be shared with mythical creatures but we should be able to coexist for the event. The flats will be open as usual, and I was hoping this may get the various camps closer together for some Rendezvous participation, as I understand we have done in the past.
I understand that some of the Clan and our Rendezvous guests may have issues with this plan, so even though the timing is not optimal, this will require some degree of understanding and support from all of you.
I think the Fall Rendezvous will still be a great event, just with a twist. Walking the loop trail by candlelight may just be a little more exciting than in years past as there will be more than just an Ox Dog lurking in the darkness…
