The lead story has to be the cancellation of the Vintage weekend races.
Unfortunately, a very low entry count caused Joel to pull the plug on the festivities. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. We will regroup, come up with another plan and hopefully have a bigger and better race next year. So far, we plan to fill the weekend with another OTD, thanks to Clutch, and are looking at another rental.
As I sit and write this, Race Weekend 5 is 8 days away, through Kelly‘s magic, you may just read this before the race. As of now, we are looking for someone to grill the burgers and dogs during trophies. If you stay, plan on catching the concert on the hill following Saturday’s racing. The band is Whiskey Business and the concert is a fundraiser put on by Archery.
Our bylaws mandate that we occasionally examine them and update them when desirable. The Board worked hard for several months to come up with a few changes that made sense. They were voted in overwhelmingly at the last general membership meeting last week. There are no earth-shattering changes, only a few things that streamline the way things get done.
If you haven’t heard, there is going to be a Halloween-themed walk-through exhibit in the Muzzleloader’s area behind the campground. They are already putting it up. I was at the track on Wednesday for a short time and saw 3 semi-trailers being emptied. It is scheduled to open on Friday of Race Weekend 6 and run on weekends through October. As it will be open only at night, it shouldn’t affect our race too much, but it will play havoc with the campground- it is best not to plan on camping that weekend. If the anticipated crowds show up, the exposure for us and OCSC will be tremendous! The pipe gate at the spectator entrance will probably be locked at night, so if you have any need to be at the track after hours, arrange it with Steve Toth before you come by.
I have my two usual rants to close out with. Both WHRRI and OCSC count on volunteers to function. We need you! As a racer, you benefit directly from the work others do to make racing possible. You owe it to your fellow club members to contribute some of your time. The same is true with OCSC. Volunteering is rewarding, and as I have said before, WHRRI is full of very smart people who have a lot to offer. Just do it!
