Shadows – October 2022
October 1, 2022The Bite – October 2022
October 1, 2022As I write this, we have one race weekend left. By the time you read it, our season should be finished. Our last race weekend went very well. Jerry even complimented our on track behavior. Weekend 5’s special race was “2 Stroke Smoke” especially for the Formula 500 cars. I spent some time talking to Mike Hintze, Ted Johnston and Steve Thompson and looking at their car. I was impressed! The cars are so different from what the rest of us are used
to- tiny tires, no shock absorbers or metal springs, no shifter and no room in the cockpit. But they are blindingly quick and among the fastest cars at our track. At least one of the cars was using castor oil, so they even smell great, too.
Workbees to close the track for the winter will be scheduled shortly. Please try to attend, there is a lot to do. We also plan to address the turn 6 runoff area. The plan is to regrade the grass area and enlarge the gravel traps. Our hope is to minimize the damage misjudgment or mechanical failures cause.
We, like many others, mourn the cancellation of the Friday Fish Fry. Unfortunately, they were not making enough money for the Club and other ideas are going to be tried. Please patronize the band nights or stop in for dinner on Friday nights. We are all members of the parent club. We need to support ourselves!
Banquet time is approaching. This year we are going to have a second, special awards banquet to show our appreciation for our workers. Check the website for dates, times, locations and prices. Get your tickets soon!
If you have a car you would like to show at Autorama, usually in early March, let me know. We need to come up with 6 excellent examples of our passion.
Though we may be done racing for the season, there is always plenty going on. Our meetings through the winter are important to keep you informed and a good way to socialize with fellow racers. Please plan to attend them!
Until next month,
Brian Murphy
