August 1, 2022By the time you read this, we will be more than halfway through our racing season and our Vintage races will be done. Time sure does fly! I’m excited about the Vintage races. We were able to get the township to let us run a full 8 hour day on Friday. This should bring, if not more cars, at least new entries. Racers will be more likely to drive here for the extra day on the track. More next month.
Race weekend 3 went pretty well, with only relatively minor incidents. One of them involved my car. I look forward to the day that the itching from doing fiberglass repairs goes away. Aside from that, competition has been keen and racers seemed to be running good times having a good time doing it! We had a cookout after the Saturday race. Hamburgers and hot dogs and dishes to pass were shared by many of us while we relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company.
Our Open Track Days got a last-minute addition when a long-standing July 4th rental fell through. Ed “Clutch” Frank came through once again with a great day at the last minute. Thanks to all the volunteers who came out on their holiday to tech the cars, work the corners, and just make sure everything ran well. As I often write; you should give this a try in your own car! It is fun, exciting, not too expensive and it will make you a better driver.
Again this month I will give a shout-out to Gary Mobley and his family. They put in many hours manning (and womaning?) the concession stand. I don’t think we would be in danger of starving to death if they weren’t there, but they sure make it a more pleasant weekend.
As I will say for the rest of the summer, come see the races! OCSC members get in free. Also, if you want to meet nice people and work around some amazing cars, let me know. We always want volunteers, we’ll put you to work.
Until next month,
Brian Murphy
“We’re half way through the racing season and the class battles are fierce! Only 3 races left this season. Get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. Track is ‘hot’ Saturday and Sunday from 10AM until 6PM. See you in the paddock, and be sure to line up for the parade laps!”
