Conservation Corner – May 2023

Once again Pat Larsen headed up the winter ‘Aluminum Recycling Contest’. Our sub clubs competed to see who could collect the most clean aluminum and cash. This year’s winner……..Our friends from Road Race….great job Jerry and all of the WHRRI members!!! Money collected from the recycling and also cash donations will go to the charity of their choice. Thank you Pat and our partners at ‘Scrap Dog’ for loaning the box truck!!!! Sub clubs, start collecting for the 2024 contest!!!

The 3rd Annual OCSC Campus cleanup was a great success. We had a small army of volunteers cleaning up our club grounds after the long winter. Of course, all organic material collected was taken to the compost pile behind the main club. There was not a lot of “garbage” to dispose of and I am happy to report there were only a minimal number of cigarette butts to be picked up. THANK YOU SMOKERS for getting your “butts” to the can!!! A special thank you to Shawn Shilling for trailering leaves to the compost and arranging for the tractor operators. Next year’s cleanup will be APRIL 6th 2024.

Adopt-A-Stream happened early on May 6th. Reports will be posted on the Clinton River Watershed Counsel’s
website when all of the data is compiled ( www.crwc.org )
