Spring is on the way! If you are interested in Fly Fishing the Michigan Fly Fishing club is holding their Annual “Midwest Fly Fishing Expo” at Macomb Community College on March 12th and 13th. Go to www.mffc.org for more information.
I took myself ice fishing for the first time ever. I was out on Townsend Lake right after the Stonefly Search (see this month’s Conservation Corner)……I learned a lot, but mostly how cold one can get sitting out on open ice with no shelter on a windy 14-degree day. I had an ice spud but no auger……It’s really hard work to chop a big enough hole in 6 to 8 inches of ice. An ice scoop/skimmer would have been a great idea rather than using my hands to clear the chips of ice out of the hole. No fish were harmed on this fact-finding day, but I think with better equipment and some shelter, I would have been able to out longer than 45 minutes and would have had better luck.
As always, we love to get pictures of your catch. Please send them to us for posting on the club website www.ocsc.club
We would love to hear what you think! Come to a fishing club meeting (the third Wednesday of the month at 7PM) or email us at OaklandCountySportFishingClub@gmail.com
FISH ON!!!
