Time marches on (quickly), and so does the racing season. Our much anticipated 3 full day Vintage Race Weekend is history. Although the weather didn’t cooperate and some of the drivers left early on Saturday night or Sunday morning because of the threat of storms, I think it is safe to say everyone who participated had a great time. As far as WHRRI is concerned, we came together as a club under Joel’s watchful eye to make sure our visiting racers had a good experience. I, along with Carl and Anthony Biondo and Ron Krantz got to cook about 80 New York strip steaks over an open, extremely hot fire!
We finished Race Weekend 4 tonight. Only 2 more race weekends. We had beautiful weather, which means we have no excuse for the mishaps that befell us over the weekend. I am confident the August races will run smoother. We again had a cookout after the Saturday race. Hamburgers and hot dogs and dishes to pass were shared by many of us. The laughter and chatter from those who stayed to partake attest to the good time everyone had. August and
September cookouts are already in the works.
We still have several Open Track Days to offer. I’ve said many times this is the best run program of its kind. And I will say again to my fellow OCSC members, give this a try in your street car! Just about any vehicle other than a truck is welcome. Trucks are too top heavy and scary to watch. It is exhilarating and will improve anyone’s driving skills.
Thanks to Dan Stiff for his many years of box lunches for our workers. I wish him well in his retirement and hope to see him around once in a while. Thanks again to Gary and his family for running the concession stand for us. They’re even serving biscuits and gravy for breakfast!
As I will say for the rest of the summer, come see the races! OCSC members get in free. Also, if you want to meet nice people and work around some amazing cars, let me know. We always want volunteers, we’ll put you to work.
Until next month,
Brian Murphy
