Shadows – July 2024
July 1, 2024The Bite – July 2024
July 1, 2024WATERFORD HILLS ROAD RACING (WHRRI)
I start this off with sad news and more sad news. Early in June we lost Jim Miller. Jim battled cancer for many years and defied the odds to continue being a steward a lot longer than I’m sure even he expected. He was a racer, too and, while I don’t know his license number, it only had 3 digits! Even when you knew from looking at him that he was hurting, he always had a smile when you said hi. We will all miss him.
A few days later, Pam Krantz passed away. She hadn’t been doing well lately and it finally wore her down. Pam never tooted her own horn, probably the only one who knew how hard Pam worked was Ron. From the Paddock Shoppe she reimagined and refined to the very involved plans needed to put on our awards banquet every year, only now, while trying to duplicate her efforts will we realize how much she did for us. I imagine hardly a day went by that she didn’t work on something that benefited WHRRI. We will miss her, too. I have known Ron for over 30 years, Pam introduced me to him.
The joint race has come and gone and was very successful with more than 120 entrants. The stewards were a bit short handed and there was a comm issue, but they rose to the occasion, dealt with it and kept us on time and running smoothly.
This year, we have a second joint race at the end of August, RW5. Archery is sponsoring a concert on the hill after our last race on Saturday. I can’t wait to see it happen, I hope everyone is planning on attending!
We can still use volunteer help on the grill after Saturday’s racing. John and Gina have volunteered for some weekends and I can help after Race Group 6 is done, but we can use more help.
I am just going to copy this from last month, because nothing has changed: I will again extol the virtues of participating and volunteering at our Club and especially OCSC. We are a bunch of
intelligent, talented people and our input will be an asset wherever we volunteer it.
Please consider donating your time, we need it. This is our Club, your participation is as valued as it is necessary.
See you at the track!
